Men's Basketball goes 2-1 at Monroe Classic

OCALA--The College of Central Florida men's basketball team went 2-1 over the weekend at the Monroe College Classic in New Rochelle, NY. 

The weekend included some of the nation's top teams including host Monroe, Harcum College, ASA College, and fellow FCSAA member Eastern Florida State College.

CF kicked off the three-day tournament on Thursday against ASA (NY). The Patriots went into the half with a six-point lead over the Avengers and would hang on to win it 81-78. Ivan Gandia led all scorers with 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Francois Lewis added 17 points and seven rebounds and Van Turner, Jr. had 15 in the win.

CF returned to the court on Friday for match up against the host school Monroe. The Patriots again held a six-point lead at the half, but the Mustangs came out firing in the second half, outscoring the Patriots 33-30. CF outlasted Monroe to secure a 72-69 win.

Paul Turner led the Patriot offense with 23 points, while Jared Armstrong put up a career-high 16 points and 7 rebounds. 

The Patriots closed out the weekend against national powerhouse Harcum College. CF held a 36-35 lead at the half, but couldn't hold on. The Bears would go on to defeat the Patriots 89-70.

CF will be back in action this weekend as they host the JUCO Shootout Dec. 10-11 at Patriot Gym. The shootout will consist of five games each day, with the first game starting at noon and final game tipping off at eight both days. The Patriots will play at eight both nights, hosting Broward College on Saturday and Indian River State College on Sunday. Admission will be $5 per game.
