Miles Curley and Logan Chapman both had late inning game winning hits to allow the College of Central Florida Patriots to sweep the Hillsborough Community College Hawks on Saturday, 7-6 and 2-0.
Curley's hit came in the bottom of the ninth inning of game one with the Patriots down 6-5. The long single to centerfield scored two runs and gave CF the walk-off win. Curley finished the game with three RBI. In the game Dawson Harman hit his 17th home run of the season and had two RBI. Jay Jung relieved starting pitcher, Brayden Toro and was very impressive throwing five shutout innings allowing only two hits with six strikeouts. Arturo Ormaza picked up the win in relief to improve to 4-0.
Game two was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning of the scheduled seven inning game. Gio Mendoza led off the inning with a double. After a walk to Marcus Bradshaw and a wild pitch, Chapman singled up the middle to plate both runners and give CF a 2-0 lead. Jose Paniagua would come in and pitch the seventh inning to secure his second save of the season. Paniagua allowed two hits, but no runs. Relief pitcher Peyton Fall earned the win throwing two shutout innings, striking out three. CF starter, Colson Altman was stellar through the first four innings allowing only one hit, no runs, and striking out four. Harman finished game two with two doubles while Chapman had two hits and two RBI.
CF improves to 30-11 overall and 15-9 in the Citrus Conference. The Pats are currently tied for third place. Hillsborough drops to 16-23 and 8-16 in conference.
The Patriots will travel to Jacksonville on Tuesday for a non-conference game against Florida State College at Jacksonville. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
