The Indian River State College Pioneers fell just short of being crowned Citrus Conference Champions but still managed to sweep the College of Central Florida Patriots 10-0 and 8-6 on Saturday in Ocala. The Pioneers finished in second place in the conference behind Florida Southwestern State. CF finished the regular season in fourth place.
In game one it was all Indian River. Brothers Matt and Jason Lashley did all the damage offensively the Pioneers would need. Matt connected on his first home run of the season and had three RBI while Jason collected three hits and an RBI. Javier Miranda (5 IP, H, 0R, 2K) and Andris Barroso )2 IP, 0H, 0R, 3K) combined to pitch the seven-inning shutout.
The Pats jumped out to an early lead in game two and held it until the ninth inning when the Pioneers rallied for five runs and the 8-6 come from behind win. CF starting pitcher Karson Lindsey pitched 6.1 stellar innings allowing seven hits, one earned run with four strikeouts. Offensively the Pats got doubles from Anthony Diaz and Gio Mendoza, a triple from Marcus Bradshaw, and Dawson Harman collected three hits including his 21st home run, one short of tying the school record.
CF ends the regular season at 34-16, 19-14 in the Citrus Conference and will hit the road on Friday for regional playoff action. The Pats opponent has yet to be determined. The Pioneers finished 34-14, 24-9 and will host an opponent for regional weekend.
