Brett House drove in four runs on two hits to lead the College of Central Florida Patriots past the St. Petersburg College Titans 8-4 on Saturday afternoon in Clearwater. House doubled in two runs in the third inning and hit a solo home run in the sixth inning. It was House’s third home run of the season.
The win was the Patriots fifth in a row in conference play and moved them into a tie for first place with a 6-3 conference record. Overall the Pats are 17-4. St. Petersburg College fell to 3-16-1, 1-8.
It was a close game after three innings with the Pats ahead 6-4, but then three CF pitchers shutout the Titans over the final six innings. Braydon Toro (1-2) earned the win tossing two innings allowing two hits, no runs, with one strikeout. Arturo Ormaza entered in relief of Toro in the fifth inning and escaped from a bases loaded no out jam. Ormaza would go 2.2 innings, allowing two hits, no runs, with four strikeouts. Jose Paniagua closed out the final two innings not allowing a hit or a run and striking out one.
Other contributors to the offense besides House were Anthony Diaz with two hits including a double and an RBI and Cooper Jones with a double and two RBI.
Patriots Assistant Coach Tony Voiro said “Even though we didn’t play at our best today, we have enough talent on this team that someone usually steps up and we find away to get the job done.”
CF will return to Goodlett Field in Ocala on Tuesday when they welcome the Vikings of St. John’s River State College. First pitch is 3:00 PM.
