
A good mix of hitting and pitching led the College of Central Florida Patriots to a three game sweep in the Early Bird JUCO Classic in Auburndale this weekend. CF outscored their three opponents by a score of 34-2.
The first game on Friday was a 5-0 shutout win over Hillsborough Community College. Jake Meadows tossed four innings allowing only two hits, no runs, and striking out five batters. Colston Altman earned the save with three no-hit shutout innings. Miles Curley led the offense with two hits and three RBI.
In the second game on Saturday the bats really exploded as the Pats belted four home runs in a 16-1 win over St. Petersburg College. Dawson Harman had two HRs with seven RBI. Victor Martinez connected on his first collegiate HR and had three RBI. The fourth HR of the game came off the bat of outfielder, Brett House. Peyton Fall earned the win on the mound going two innings allowing one run, one hit, with three Ks. Jay Jung and Cory Geinzer combined for five relief innings pitched allowing only two hits, no runs, with four Ks.
In Saturday's final game of the weekend the Pats defeated nationally ranked Chipola College, 13-1. Harman stayed hot with three more hits including his third HR of the weekend. House hit his second HR, and Logan Chapman had two doubles with three RBI. Joey Wimpelberg had a solid start going three innings allowing only one hit, no runs, and striking out seven Chipola batters. Brayden Toro threw two shutout innings while striking out four.
The Patriots home opener is Tuesday, January 28th, 2:00 PM vs. A3 Academy. All CF home games are played at Goodlett Field on the campus of The College of Central Florida in Ocala. All games are free to the public.
