CF Baseball Season Ends with Loss to Pensacola State

The 2024 Pats will unfortunately not be defending their national title in Grand Junction this year as they were defeated by Pensacola State 14-6 in the Wild Card game of the FCSAA State Tournament on Tuesday in Tallahassee. The Pirates took an early lead over the Pats by scoring six runs in the first inning. The Patriots battled back a couple times to cut the deficit to four runs at 7-3 in the second and 10-6 in the fifth, however Pensacola hit a grand slam in the 9th to secure their lead.

Edwin Toribio hit his team leading 16th home run in the 5th inning. He went 3 for 5 with the HR and a double and scored two runs. Cole Bullen and Austin Eppley each collected two hits.

Todd Kniebbe had a solid outing for the Pats out of the pen. He threw three and a third innings and did not allow a run against the high powered Pensacola offense. He only allowed two hits and truck out three.

The Pats finish the season with a 30-23 record and made the playoffs for the third consecutive year. Kareh Valentin ended the season leading the team with a .400 batting average along with 14 doubles and 7 home runs. The Pats offense blasted 78 home runs on the year with three players hitting double digit HR: Toribio (16), Kainen Jorge (14), and Gunnett Carlson (12).
