Pats Baseball Splits DH at Polk State

The CF Patriot baseball team split their doubleheader at Polk State on Saturday. The dropped the first game 5-4 and won the second 11-7. The split gave the Eagles a series win over the Pats and drops the Pats to 7-8 in Citrus Conference Play.

Game 1: CF 4 - PSC 5

Edwin Toribio had a perfect gaem at the plate ging 4-4 with a double and a home run, driving in all four of the Patriot runs. The Pats were down 4-0 early after a couple costly errors by the defense, however they came back scoring two in the third and two more in the fourth to tie it up at four. The Eagles took the lead in the top of the fifth on a wild pitch that got just far enough away from catcher Michael Guilliams to bring home the go ahead runner. The Pats offense had nine hits in the game. Gunnett Carlson went 2-3 with two runs scored and Austin Eppley went 2-3 with 2 singles. 

Game 2: CF 11 - PSC 7

The Pats were down 6-0 in the sixth before the offense went on a power surge. Kainen Jorge hit a 3-run home run in the 6th, his 8th HR of the season, to pull the Pats within 3. In the 7th the Pats continued with a surge of home runs. Cooper Jones hit a two-run homer run, Toribio hit a three-run home run, and Guirola followed it up with a solo home run. Later in the inning Jones added two more runs with a single to left that scored Logan Chapman and Jorge. James Hill gave the Pats a solid start. He went four innings allowing two runs on five hits and striking out one. Courtland Clark earned the win for the Pats. He threw and inning and two-thirds in relief, allowing one run on one hit and a walk. Karson Lindsey was light out in relief, throwing the 6th and 7th innings for the Patriots. He struck out four and did not allow a hit. Luke Ridley closed out the game against his former team, throwing one inning and allowing only one hit. The Pats offense had 13 hits, five of those going for extra bases.

The Pats next game was originally scheduled at home for Wednesday vs Florida State College at Jacksonville, however it has been moved up one day to Tuesday, March 19th in Ocala at 3 PM.
