CF Wins First Game of State Tournament 7-2 Over Chipola

The #7 ranked College of Central Florida Patriots took down #2 ranked Chipola Indians 7-2 in the State Tournament Opening game. Aaron Combs gave the Pats a stellar start on the mound and Edrick Felix came up with two big hits to help lead CF to victory. Combs (8-2) only gave up two hits and two runs, one earned, in six and a third innings pitched while striking out nine batters. 

Felix (2-4, HR, 2B, 4 RBI) got the Patriots on the board with a two-out three-run home run in the third inning, scoring Caleb Cali (2-3, R, 2 BB) and Victor Castillo (2-5, 3R). Nicholas Calero also had a solid day at the plate going 2-3 and driving in two runs with a sac fly in the fifth and single in the ninth. The Pats collected 12 hits and four walks on the day. 

Sam Swygert came in relief for Combs in the seventh and did his job throwing one and a third inning striking two before passing the ball to Mason Ronan who got out of a tough two out situation in the eighth with runners on second and third before closing out the game in the ninth. Ronan also threw one and a third innings, striking out two. 

The Patriots will next play Indian River State College, who defeated Miami Dade College 9-1, at 5 PM on Friday. Chipola will play Miami Dade in the loser's bracket matchup on Friday at 1 PM.
