Patriots Reach 40 Wins with 8-5 Victory Over Seminole

The College of Central Florida Patriots defeated the Seminole State College Raiders 8-5 for their 40th win of the season on Monday afternoon at Goodlett Field. The Pats' 40-win milestone was reached for the fourth time in the Marty Smith era, which started in 1995. CF is currently 40-14 over-all and 26-3 in the Mid-Florida Conference.

The Pats got off to a quick start when Kevin Kilpatrick led off the first inning with a double and scored a few batters later on a groundout by Caleb Cali to give CF a 1-0 lead. The Raiders' Christian Webb connected on his fifth home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Seminole jumped out to a 3-1 lead on a couple of Pats errors in the fourth inning. The Pats answered quickly as Cali hit his 14th home run of the season to lead off the bottom of the fourth inning to make it 3-2. The Pats loaded up the bases in the fifth inning and Cali came through again with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3 apiece. Edrick Felix also hit his 14th home run of the season in the sixth and a Jared Evans groundball gave the Pats a 5-3 lead. The lead wouldn't last long as Jose Perez connected on his second HR of the season to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the seventh inning. The Pats always seemed to answer the Raiders as an RBI single by Felix in the seventh, a Raiders error and a wild pitch in the eighth gave the win to the Pats by the final margin of 8-5.

Connor Godwin (2-2) picked up the win by tossing 2.1 innings, allowing 2 hits, 2 runs and a strike out in relief of CF starter Aaron Combs who went five innings, allowing only one earned run, three hits and striking out nine batters. Yehoshua Garcia (0.2 IP, 0H, 0R, 1K) and Ty Moody (1.0 IP, 0H, 0R, SV #2) closed out the game.

The Patriots have two games remaining in their regular season: Wednesday, April 27th, 3:00 PM at Seminole State College in Sanford and Saturday, April 30th, 1:00 PM vs. TNXL Academy at Goodlett Field. The Saturday game will also be Sophomore Day as the Pats honor their outgoing players.
