Pats Fall Behind Early, Rally for a 15-8 Win

The Patriots found themselves down 5-0 after two innings to Lake Sumter State College when the game was suspended for an hour and a half for lightning. The break must have done the Pats some good as they came out of the delay swinging and rallied to beat the Lake Hawks 15-8. Caleb Cali started the comeback in the third inning when he belted his twelfth home run of the season. That was followed immediately by Victor Castillo's tenth home run which cut the Lake Hawk's lead to 5-3. After John Marant was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Castillo doubled to the gap in right center to score two runs and give CF a 6-5 lead. A wild pitch scored another run and the Pats were up 7-5. After trading runs the Lake Hawks tied the game at 8 on an error and an RBI single from Nick Coello. In the top of the seventh Jackson Taylor broke the tie when he singled home Edrick Felix. Two batters later Patriots catcher David Pereira unloaded for a grand slam home run, his third HR of the season and gave the Pats a 13-8 lead. Felix added an RBI groundout and an RBI single to account for the final two runs for the Pats.

Sam Swygert (1-0) entered the game in the sixth inning with the game tied at eight and struck out Dannon Smith to end the Lake Hawks rally. Swygert would get the win for the Patriots by throwing 3.1 innings allowing only two hits, no runs and striking out five batters.

The win was the 13th in a row for the Patriots and their 22nd win in their last 23 games. CF is currently sitting at 35-13 for the season and 21-2 in the Mid-Florida Conference. A win by the Pats or a loss by Seminole State College on Saturday will give the Patriots the 2022 Mid-Florida Conference Championship.

Saturday the Patriots welcome the Lake Sumter Lake Hawks to Goodlett Field for the final game of the three-game series. First pitch is at 1:00 PM.
