PATS ROUTE RIVAL SANTA FE 11-1

The College of Central Florida Patriots defeated Santa Fe College Saints 11-1 in five innings on Monday afternoon to improve their record to 14-12 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Santa Fe fell to 13-10 and 1-1.

The Patriots scored in each of the first four innings. Back-to-back doubles by John Marant and Caleb Cali started the scoring for the Pats in the first. In the second inning, Jared Evans drove home three runs with a bases loaded double to left field to push the lead to 4-0. A Nicholas Calero sacrifice fly and a Marant ground out scored two more runs for a 6-0 lead. Landon Ginn led off the third inning with a single, stole second base and scored on a single by David Pereira to make it 7-1. Kevin Kilpatrick doubled home Pereira to finish the scoring in the third. Ginn hit his third home run of the season in the fourth inning followed by a Calero double that drove home two more runs and gave the Pats their final margin of victory of 11-1. The game ended after the top of the fifth inning due to the conference run rule.

Aaron Combs was magnificent on the mound, throwing a complete game. He threw 5 innings, giving up only two hits, one run and tallied six strike outs to improve to 1-2 on the season. Kilpatrick (2-4, double, triple, RBI), Ginn (2-3, 3R, HR, RBI), Carson Bayne (2-3, 2R, double), Pereira (2-2, 3R, RBI), Evans (2-2, double, 3 RBI), Calero (1-2, double, 3 RBI) led the offense.

This was a game the Pats needed after dropping the first game of the series 8-6 at Santa Fe College on Saturday. The final game of the three game series will be Wednesday, 2:00 PM at Santa Fe College.
