Scoring Early and Often Sends Pats Over Raiders 10-5

The College of Central Florida Patriots (24-13, 10-2) scored all ten of their runs over the first four innings and held on to defeat the Seminole State College Raiders (18-13, 8-4) 10-5 on Saturday afternoon at Goodlett Field.

The Raiders opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Luke Hatcher singled home Hunter Noblitt to give Seminole a 1-0 lead. It didn't take long for the Patriots to respond as they tied the game up in the bottom of the first when Caleb Cali grounded into a double play scoring Kevin Kilpatrick. The Pats would take the lead for good in the bottom of the second when Raiders' starting pitcher Michael Guerrero walked the bases loaded followed by a John Marant double which scored three runs. A similar scenario in the third inning as the Raiders walked two batters and hit another followed by a two run double from Jared Evans gave the Pats a 6-1 lead. Two batters later Marant connected on a 431-foot home run to deep right center to push the lead to 9-1. CF would add one more run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch which scored Jackson Taylor. The Pats' bats went cold after getting the lead up to 10-1 but starting pitcher Landon Ginn was on target through his five innings of work. Ginn went 5.0 innings allowed five hits, 2 earned runs and struck out six. Ginn improved to 4-1 on the season. Sam Swygert tossed a 1-2-3 inning while striking out two batters. Connor Godwin and Avery Love finished the game out over the final three innings allowing only one earned run.

Leading hitters for the Patriots were John Marant 2-3, 2B, HR, 5 RBI and Jared Evans 1-1, 2R, 2B, 2 RBI.

The Patriots and Raiders will play game two of the three game series on Monday, 3:00 PM at Seminole State College in Sanford, Florida.
