Pats Win 8-3 on the Road vs FSCJ

The College of Central Florida Patriots (4-5) won back to back games for the first time this season when they defeated the Florida State College at Jacksonville 8-3 on Monday. The Pats won the second game of their doubleheader on Saturday and now have a two-game winning streak.

The Patriots fell behind in the first inning when Garrett Chun singled home Blake Wood with the first run. A bases loaded hit by pitch and a walk scored runs to push the Blue Wave (2-3) lead to 3-0. Connor Godwin started on the mound for the Pats and struggled with control by walking three and hitting two in his three innings of work. Godwin was still able to strike out six. Avery Love (2-0) had his best outing of the year when he relieved Godwin. Love threw four innings of shutout baseball allowing only three hits while striking out five. James Hill and Sam Swygert closed the game out by facing the minimum over the last two innings.

The CF bats woke up in the third inning when Kevin Kilpatrick led off with a triple to deep right center field and scored on a dropped third strike wild pitch. After a single by Caleb Cali and a walk by Edrick Felix, Brenden Vern lashed a bases loaded double scoring three to give Central Florida the lead 4-3. The Pats bats were not done yet in the third inning. After a Nicholas Calero walk and a wild pitch, David Pereira singled to right field to score Vern and Calero to push the lead to 6-3. The Patriots would score their final two runs in the seventh inning on a Kilpatrick single and a sacrifice fly by Carson Bayne.

Leading hitters on the day for CF were Kilpatrick (2-5, 1R, 1RBI), Bayne (1-4, 2RBI), Cali (2-4), Vern (2-5, 3RBI), and Pereira (1-3, 2RBI).

The Patriots are back on the road Wednesday when they travel to Tallahassee to play Tallahassee Community College with a 4:00 PM game.
