Patriots Split Double Header with South Georgia

The College of Central Florida Patriots (3-5) found themselves on the losing end of a good ole fashion pitcher's duel in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday losing 2-1 to the South Georgia State College Hawks (2-3).

CF starting pitcher Landon Ginn had a quality start throwing five shutout innings while giving up only two hits and striking out seven Hawks. South Georgia's starting pitcher, Wes Lott was almost as good throwing four innings allowing only four hits, one run and striking out two.

The Pats grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a Caleb Cali RBI single that scored Kevin Kilpatrick who had tripled to deep centerfield. The scored remained 1-0 until the top of the seventh inning when a Hawk walk, single, and a bloop double by Logan Roberts tied the game. The next batter Hunter Goff hit a sacrifice fly to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. That would be all the Hawks needed as Isaiah Wellman had a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh to earn the save.

In the second game the of the doubleheader the Patriots came out swinging as they produced five runs through the first two innings of their 7-3 win over the Hawks. Jared Evans' two out single scored Kevin Kilpatrick and Jackson Taylor in the first inning to give the Pats a 2-0 lead. In the second inning Nicholas Calero and Kilpatrick singled. Calero scored on a Carson Bayne double. Taylor then singled home Kilpatrick and Bayne to increase the Pat lead to 5-1.

CF starting pitcher, Mason Ronan (1-0) gave the Pats another great start as he went five innings allowing only three hits, two runs and struck out nine. James Hill (1.0 IP, 0H, 0R, 3K) and Matt Magrann (1.0 IP, 1H, 1R, 3K) closed the game out. Pats pitchers combined to strike out 15 batters in the game. Edrick Felix, Taylor and Evans each had two RBI in the game.
