Back to Back HRs in Ninth Inning Win It for the Patriots

The start to the 2022 season for the College of Central Florida Patriots (2-4) has been a rough one losing four of their first five games. Friday afternoon's game against the South Florida State College Panthers (4-2) was more of the same with shaky pitching and the lack of clutch hitting. That would all change in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Patriots scored six times to walk-off the Panthers 11-10.

Carson Bayne led of the ninth inning with a single and was driven home when John Marant doubled down the right field line to get the Pats within four runs. Kevin Kilpatrick beat out an infield single to move Marant to third. Caleb Cali followed that up with a sacrifice fly to score Marant and make the score 10-7. Victor Castillo singled to place runners at first and third. After a wild pitch scored Kilpatrick, Edrick Felix tied the game up with his first home run of the year to deep left field. Landon Ginn then greeted new pitcher Brady Markham with a walk-off homerun just inside the right field foul pole to give the Patriots a much needed 11-10. It was Ginn's second home run of the season.

Avery Love (1-0) earned the win by pitching the final 1.1 innings allowing no runs and striking out two. Kilpatrick finished the day 3 for 5 with two runs scored and a double, Castillo was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Felix was 1 for 5, two runs and three RBI. Brenden Vern went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. David Pereira added two RBI with a single.

The Patriots are back in action on Saturday, February 5th with a doubleheader against the South Georgia State College Hawks. First game begins at Noon.
