SIX HOME RUNS POWER PATS OVER UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA JV

The College of Central Florida Patriots (12-9) hit six home runs in their 17-7 win over the University of Tampa Spartans JV team on Saturday afternoon at Goodlett Field. The barrage started in the first inning when Pat's catcher David Pereira hit his second home run of the season to stake CF to a 2-0 lead. 

The Spartans entered the fifth inning down 4-2 but erupted for five runs with the big hit being a Matt Doran two RBI double. Finding themselves trailing by three runs the Pats bats awoke in the bottom of the fifth inning when Pereira and Caleb Cali walked followed by an Edrick Felix home run. After a single by Carson Bayne and a Jared Evans walk Jackson Taylor hit his first home run of the season to deep right field. The power trip wasn't over yet as Kevin Kilpatrick hit a solo home run and Edrick Felix hit his second three run HR of the inning to give the Pats a 14-7 lead.

Kilpatrick led off the seventh inning with another solo HR, his second of the game and third HR of the season. Kilpatrick would finish the game 3 for 5, 3R, 2 HR, 2 RBI. He currently has the most hits in the country for NJCAA baseball.

Other standouts from the game include Edrick Felix (2-4, 3R, 2 HR, 6 RBI), Carson Bayne (3-5, R, RBI), David Pereira (1-3, 3R, HR, 2 RBI), Jackson Taylor (2-2, 2R, HR, 3 RBI), and Caleb Cali (1-2, 4R, RBI).

Landon Ginn started for the Pats and went 4 innings, allowing only one earned run on two hits while striking out seven Spartans. Matt Magrann (1-0) earned the win in relief tossing one shutout inning. Avery Love, Connor Godwin and Sam Swygert closed out the final three innings allowing no runs, two hits and striking out six.

The Patriots finish up their six game homestand with a 2 PM game on Tuesday, February 28th against the Florida State College at Jacksonville Blue Wave.
