In a Slugfest Pats Beat St. Pete 11-10

The College of Central Florida Patriots outlasted the St. Petersburg College Titans 11-10 Wednesday evening in Clearwater. The win for the Pats was their seventh in the last eight games and improved their record to 9-6.

The Patriots found themselves down 4-1 in the sixth inning when they erupted for five runs to take a lead they would not relinquish. The sixth started with back-to-back hit by pitches to Landon Ginn and Edrick Felix. After two pop outs, Nicholas Calero singled home Ginn and David Pereira singled home Felix to get CF within one run. The Patriots took the lead when Kevin Kilpatrick doubled to centerfield to score Calero and Pereira. A balk and an error produced the fifth run of the inning and a CF 6-4 lead. The Titans scored solo runs in the 6th and 7th and the Pats a single run in the seventh to make it a 7-6 game headed to the ninth inning.

In the top of the ninth inning Felix was once again hit by a pitch, his third of the game, followed by a Victor Castillo bunt single. Carson Bayne then tripled to deep centerfield to up the Pats lead to 9-6. CF wasn't done yet as Calero doubled and Kilpatrick singled home runs to give the Patriots what looked like a comfortable five run lead headed to the bottom of the ninth.

The Titans (5-7) opened the ninth with two singles and a walk followed by a two-run single by Jake Mummau to cut the CF lead to 11-8. Mummau finished the game going 5 for 6. An error scored another run to put the tying run on base. Austin Coultas then lined a rocket to Right Fielder Bayne who caught the ball and doubled off the runner at first base. An error on the play allowed Mummau to score from third base to make it a one run game. Riley Huge was then summoned from the bullpen and enticed Will Bruno to groundout and give the Patriots the 11-10 win.

Kilpatrick (2-6, 3RBI, Double), Caleb Cali (3-6, Double), Castillo (2-5, RBI, Double), Bayne (2-4, 2R, 2RBI, Triple), Calero (2-3, 2R, 2RBI, Double) and Pereira (2-5, RBI) led the offense. James Hill (1-0) got the win in relief throwing two innings, allowing one hit, two unearned runs and striking out two. Huge earned his first save of the season.
