Pats Score 32 Runs in Sweep of ASA Miami

After three straight road games, the College of Central Florida Patriots welcomed the ASA Miami Silver Storm to Goodlett Field on Saturday. The Pats weren't very hospitable as they swept the Silver Storm by scores of 22-15 and 10-2. The wins extended the CF winning streak to six games and improved their record to 8-5. ASA Miami fell to 3-8.

In the first game the Patriots built up a 15-0 lead in the fourth inning when they scored eleven runs. Kevin Kilpatrick had a double and a triple in the inning and drove in four runs. John Marant, Anthony Westbrook and Spencer Stephens had run scoring singles in the inning. In the top of the fifth inning however, the Silver Storm stormed back to score nine runs and pull within six at 15-9. ASA was helped by the Pats pitching as three Pats pitchers combined to walk five, hit two batters, and throw two wild pitches. Also included in the rally were two hits and three RBI by the Storm's Kevin Guevara.

It was once again the Patriots turn to put up a crooked number as they brought across six more runs in the bottom of the fifth to increase their lead to 21-9. The big hit was a grand slam home run by Edrick Felix. This was Felix's second game in a row with a grand slam and his third HR of the season.

The Silver Storm scored six runs over the last two innings, but it wasn't quite enough as the Pats held on and won this slugfest 22-15. Kilpatrick was just a HR short of the cycle as he went 3-5 with six RBI. Felix went 2-4, scored three runs, and had four RBI. Westbrook got on track by going 3 for 3, scoring three runs and totaling four RBI.

Landon Ginn (1-0) was credited with the win by throwing four innings of shutout baseball. Ginn allowed only one hit, one walk, and struck out five.

After the marathon first game the teams had to find the strength to play a game two. The Patriots scored early and often as they built up a 7-0 lead after three innings and rolled to a 10-2 win in five innings. The game was called after five innings due to darkness.

Ben Chestnutt threw a complete game to improve his record to 2-0. In his five innings of work he allowed three hits, two runs and struck out eight batters.

Leading the offense for CF were Kevin Kilpatrick (2-4, 2RBI), Caleb Cali (2-3, 3RBI, double), Nick Calero (1-1, 3R, 2RBI, triple) and David Pereira (1-2, 2RBI, triple).

The Patriots will hit the road once again next week when they travel to State College of Florida – Manatee on Monday, St. Petersburg College on Wednesday and to Indian River State College on Friday. Their next home game will be on Saturday with a game against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, 2:00 PM.
