Patriot Bats Awaken in Route of South Florida

The College of Central Florida Patriots (6-5) scored twelve runs in the second inning in their 21-5 rout of the South Florida State College Panthers (7-4) in Avon Park on Friday afternoon. The win extended the Pats winning streak to four games.

After scoring three runs in the top of the first inning on only one hit, the Patriots exploded in the second inning for 12 runs on 11 hits. There were plenty of clutch hits in the inning, but none bigger than Edrick Felix's two out grand slam home run to straight away centerfield. It was Felix's second HR of the season. John Marant doubled twice in the inning with two RBI, Caleb Cali had two hits and two RBI, Landon Ginn added two hits with an RBI, Carson Bayne and Victor Castillo had RBI singles. The big inning pushed the CF lead to 15-0. The power display was not done however as Kevin Kilpatrick and David Pereira both hit their first home runs of the year with Kilpatrick's solo HR in the eighth inning and Pereira's three-run shot in the ninth inning.

Mason Ronan (2-0) started on the mound and went five innings to earn the win. Ronan gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out five. Matt Magrann (2.0 IP, 1H, 1R, 2K), Ty Moody (1.0 IP, 2H, 0R) and Riley Huge (1.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 2K) finished the final four innings for the Pats.

Leading hitters for the Patriots were: Kilpatrick (3-6, 4R, 2RBI, 2B, HR), Marant (3-4, 3R, 2RBI, (2)2B), Cali (3-4, 3R, 2RBI, 2B), Ginn (3-4, 1R, 2RBI), Castillo (2-4, 2R, 2RBI), Pereira (1-2, 1R, 3RBI, HR), Felix (2-6, 3R, 4RBI, HR).

It will be a quick turnaround for the Patriots as they host ASA Miami on Saturday, February 12 in an afternoon doubleheader. Game times are Noon and approximately 3:00 PM.
