FCSAA NO. 1 #CFBASEBALL HOLDS OFF RAIDERS, EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO 21

OCALA—The College of Central Florida baseball team extends its win streak to 21 straight wins after defeating FCSAA No. 3 Seminole State College on Monday afternoon in Sanford.

The Patriots, currently ranked No. 1 in the state, saw  a six-run lead dwindle in the final two innings as the Raiders plated 5 runs in the eighth and ninth innings. RHP Brendan Bell came in relief to record the final out and help bolster a 7-6 win for CF. With the win,  CF improves to 2-0 in the Mid-Florida Conference and 21-1 on the season.

CF got out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the third off a RBI single from sophomore third baseman Ricky Presno, sacrifice fly from freshman catcher Colton Vincent and steal of home by FCSAA Player of the Week James Nix. The Patriots would go on to plate four more runs in the fourth, six and eighth innings, including a two-run homer from sophomore infielder Zach West.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher David Mata, a transfer from Bethune-Cookman University, didn't allow a run on two hits in 3.1 innings of work before giving way to freshman RHP Francisco Mateo, who allowed just one earned run on two hits and struck out five in 3.2 innings to pick up the win.

Freshman infielder Myles Colangelo went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Presno also collected two hits on the day.

CF will be back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Lincoln Land Community College for a non-conference matchup at 3 p.m. The Patriots will look to sweep the three-game series on Wednesday when Seminole travels to Ocala for a 3 p.m. start.
