OCALA-- The College of Central Florida baseball team held off a late rally by the Titans to defeat St. Petersburg College 6-5 on Monday afternoon at Goodlett Field. CF picks up its 13th consecutive win, improving to 13-1 on the season.

The Patriots and Titans were notched up at 3-3 after five complete innings, with each team scoring a run in the first, third and fifth innings. CF pulled away in the sixth and seventh innings plating three runs off a pair of sacrifice flies from Matthew Cedarburg and Nolan Machibroda and a passed ball.

St. Pete answered back with a rally of its own.

Down 6-4 heading into the ninth inning, the Titans pulled to within one after an errant throw from CF third baseman Ricky Presno. The error allowed SPC's Josue Rangel to advance to third with just one out.

One on and one out, the Patriots go to the bullpen for sophomore left-handed pitcher Brenden Kudlinski. Kudlinski strikes out back-to-back batters to secure the Patriot win and his first save of the season.

Sophomore righty David Mata improved to 3-0 on the year, allowing just two earned runs on nine hits and struck out nine in six innings of work.

Freshman outfielder James Nix led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run, his third of the season, and three runs scored.

CF will return to action when it hosts CCBC-Catonsville on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
