
OCALA-- The College of Central Florida baseball team blasted a program single-game record seven home runs en rout to 11-6 win over Daytona State College on Friday afternoon at Goodlett Field. The Patriots now improve to 14-5 in the Mid-Florida conference, tied for second with St. John's River State College.
CF (26-12-1) trailed 3-0 after Daytona State scored three unearned runs in the top of the first inning, but the Patriots responded with four homers in its first four recorded hits of the game to even the score at 4-4 after four innings. In the sixth, Tanner May hit his second homer of the day to put CF ahead 5-4 before the Patriots blew the door open with a four-run seventh inning that included a three-run blast from May for third of the day.
Yorvis Torrealba added two more insurance runs in the eighth with a two-run homer for his second of the game.
After the win, the Patriots now increase its home run total to a state-best 72 home runs, 22 more than the second best team, and No. 3 in the NJCAA.
May led the Patriot offense at the plate going 3-for-4 with three homers, five RBI, and three runs scored. Torreabla finished 3-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored while Blake Marabell (2-for-4) hit his 11th homer of the season and Hunter Bowling (1-for-3) hit his first homer as a Patriot.
On the mound, Nick Geller allowed just one earned run on seven hits and struck out four in five innings for his third win of the season.
CF will travel to Seminole State College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start and will return home on Monday to face Florida State College at Jacksonville at 3 p.m.
