OCALA--The College of Central Florida baseball team went on the road to defeat Daytona State College on Monday afternoon.
Sophomore righty Nate Pearson threw an eight-inning two-hitter to lead the Patriots past the Falcons 4-0. Pearson (5-2), the state and nation's leader in total strikeouts (109), struck out 10 while walking just one in the outing.
CF scored all four runs in the first three innings.
Blake Marabell drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Patriots up 1-0 in the first inning. An inning later, David Flores doubled in Matt Moclair and in the third inning, Marabell led off with a solo homer and Vinny Addona later scored on a pass ball to give the Patriots all the scoring they'd need.
Christian Smallwood came in and shut the door in the ninth inning, not allowing a hit and striking out two in relief.
At the plate, Marabell led the offensive charge going 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, while Flores went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
With the win, CF split the season series with Daytona at 2-2. The Patriots will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Seminole State College for one last time. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
