Baseball unable to rally past Titans

OCALA--College of Central Florida baseball's offense couldn't get anything going against St. Petersburg, falling 4-1 on Monday afternoon at Jack Russell Stadium in Clearwater.

CF's right-handed pitcher Ryan Aspinwall gave up an early two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, but settled in to hold the Titans to just five hits and two earned runs, while striking out five in seven innings of work.

The Patriot offense recorded six hits on the day, but couldn't convert on several scoring opportunities. CF left six on base and hit into two double plays that saw runners in scoring position. Christian Smallwood (2-for-3) and Will Reddick (2-for-4) led the Patriots at the plate, while David Flores scored the Patriots only run off of wild pitch from SPC.

CF will be back on the field for a pair of games on Tuesday and Wednesday. CCBC-Catonsville will come to town on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. start. On Wednesday, the nation's top two JUCO pitchers in CF's Nate Pearson and State College of Florida's Brendon Little will take the mound for a pitching duel. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
