Women's Cross Country Begins Training for First Season

The first Women's Cross Country team at the College of Cental Florida began training this month in preparation for their season opener at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee on September 4th. Coach Lauren Lumley brings her experience and knowledge of running to CF to lead the Patriots. The team has ten athletes on the roster and all ten will compete in the meets.

There are seven girls from local high schools: Christal BestJalin CrowellQuiriat Dubon, and Destini Patterson attended North Marion HS; Trinity Bonner and Brianna Carey attended West Port HS; and Kalyn Sitterson attended The Villages Charter HS. The remaining three girls are: Michelle Kalms from Tallahasssee, FL; Heidi Kearney from Lynchburg, VA; and Madison Strickland from Charlotte, NC.

When Coach Lumley was asked about their first week of training she said, "It's been great to see how excited the girls are and see how they have already been improving. Being consistent with our weekly practice routines and finding patterns of what works best has contributed to our team's foundation. Teammates have been supportive of one another and I can see that they enjoy spending time together in and out of practice."

The Patriots will race the NJCAA Pre-Nationals TCC XC Open 5K at 9:30 A.M on September 4th in Tallahassee. The race site is also home to the 2022 NJCAA DI & DII Championships that will take place at the end of the season in November.
