Patriot Softball Defeats Hillsborough Twice at Home

The Patriots played their 3rd double header in as many days on Saturday and finished off the week with a perfect 6-0 record with two wins over Hillsborough. The Pats came from behind twice in Game one to win it in extra innings while they cruised to a 11-1 run rule victory in five innings in Game two. The Patriots are now 10-0 in Citrus Conference play which puts them alone in first place one game ahead of Florida Southwestern and Indian River. 

Game 1: CF 8 - HCC 7

The Lady Pats walked off the Hawks in game one in extra innings. HCC scored two runs in the top of the 8th to go up 7-5. In the bottom of the 8th, Patriot shortstop Leah Clark doubled in two runs to tie it up at 7 runs a peice. Zoe Riley then singled home Clark for the walk-off win. The teams went back and forth a couple times in the game. The Hawks were leading 5-4 in the sixth when Clark hit a single to score Mackenzie Fritz to tie it up. Zoey Mills game the Patriots four and one-third innings in the circle, scattering 7 hits to give up 4 runs and striking out 7. Ashley Martinec came in releif to throw two and two-thirds innings and surrended 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 3 batters. Emma Wyman finsihed out the game, getting the win. She allowed one hit and struck out two. 

The offense had 14 hits and swiped 8 bases in the game. Leading hitters were:

Leah Clark: 4-4, 3 R, 4 RBI, 2B, 3 SB
Zoe Riley: 3-5, R, 2 RBI
Amber Daugherty: 2-4, 1 RBI
Madison VanAllen: 3-3

Game 2: CF 11 - HCC 1

CF got off to an early lead scoring 5 runs in the first. The First run came in a a Hailey Scott walk and the second on a wild pitch. Caitlin Blankenship later singled to score two more and Megan Loftis drove in the 5th run. The Pats got another run in the 2nd and four more in the third on RBIs by Clark and Scott. Haley Guffey earned the win, her 8th of the year (8-2). She allowed seven hits over 5 innings striking out two. Loftis led the offense going 3 for 3 with 2 runs and a RBI. Emma Rogel went 2 for 2 with 2 runs.

The Patriots get two much needed days off before playing again on Tuesday, March 12th in Gainesville vs Santa Fe College. First pitcj of Game 1 is set for 2 pm.
