CF Softball Rebounds in Game 2 to Split with Miami Dade

The Patriots travelled down to Miami on Sunday to play a Citrus Conference doubleheader against Miami Dade. After getting shutout in game one 5-3, the Pats rebounded in game two to win 3-0. 

Game 1: CF 3 - MDC - 5

The Pats bats were quieted in game one as they only scored 3 runs on six hits. Zoe Riley hit a home run in the first to get the Pats on the board, her 5th of the year. However, the Sharks responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the third and kept the lead the rest of the way. The Patriots got two back in the sixth to make the score 5-3 with a home run by Madison VanAllen and a RBI single by Hailey Scott. Starting pitcher Zoey Mills took the loss, throwing 4 innings, giving up 2 runs on three hits. She walked four and stuck out three. 

Game 2: CF 3 - MDC 0

Starter Haley Guffey threw a complete game three-hitter for her 10th victory of the year. She struck out seven and walked two in seven innings of work. The Patriots scored their first run in the first inning on a Hailey Scott ground ball that the second baseman made an error and allowed Megan Loftis to score. The Lady Pats added two more runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 3-0. Leah Clark hit a solo home run, her 7th of the season, and Bailey Holmes hit a sac fly to score Scott. 

CF Softball is now 25-11 on the season and 16-4 in Citrus Conference games. They are one game out of first place behind Florida Southwestern State College and Indian River State College. The road warrior Pats have two conference matchups this week. Tuesday, March 26th they play at Hillsborough and Thursday, March 28th they will play at Indian River State College.
