CF Softball Defeated by Northwest Florida 5-3 in Winner's Bracket Game of State Tournament

The #3 Central Florida Patriots took on the #2 Northwest Florida Raiders in a winner's bracket matchup on day two of the FCSAA Region 8/State Tournament. After giving up one run in each of the first three innings, the Patriots responded with one run in each of the next three innings to tie the game at 3-3 in the 6th. Unfortunately the tie didn't last long as the Raiders scored two more in the bottom of the inning to secure the lead. The Patriot bats were able to get runners on but struggled to get them in against Northwest Florida pitchers Allison Brunson and Julia Petty. The top four hitters went a combined 2 for 13 with three strikeouts in the game. 

Cameron Wolfenden hit the lone home run for the Pats and it was a big one to tie the game at three a peice in the 6th. Katie Hogie drove inb the Pats other two runs in the game and wnt 2 for 4. Patriot starter Haley Guffey went only two innings and struggled with command, walking three and allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three batters. Anna Toon took over in the third and gave the Pats a chance until she surrendered two runs the sixth inning. She threw four innings, striking out two while allowing seven hits and three runs. 

Northwest Florida improved to 51-8 with the win and advanced to the championship game against Florida Southwestern. The College of Central Florida fell to 46-12 and will now play in the loser's bracket of the double elimination tournament with a chance to still advance to the NJCAA National Tournament with three more wins. They will play Pensacola State on Sunday at 1 pm. With a win vs Pensacola they would play a second game at 7 pm on Sunday night against the winner of Seminole and Indian River. Go Pats Go!
