Softball Clinches Conference Championship on Sophomore Day

The College of Central Florida clinches the Mid-Florida Conference Championship for their fifth one in a row by beating Daytona State on Sophomore day. Eleven Sophomores were recognized before the game to show appreciation for all their hard work at Central Florida. This sophomore group has posted a 89-29 record over the last two seasons. 

Avery Cervone got the Patriots on the board in the second with her first home run of the season hitting a two-run blast to right field. Gianna Guerriero later singled home a run in the fourth to extend the Pats lead 4-0. In the fifth Katie Sexton doubled with the bases loaded to score three and give the Pats a dominating 7-0 lead. After a Falcon solo home run in the sixth the, Guerriero hit her 10th of the year to go up 8-1. 

Anna Toon threw a complete game for the Patriots allowing only two runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out six. Toon improved to 9-3 on the season. 

The Patriots have two more games left on the season vs Daytona State on Saturday. They will next play in the Region VIII State Tournament at Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, FL beginning on Friday, May 5th.
