Patriots Win Conference Opener Over Santa Fe 11-9

The College of Central Florida Lady Patriots started out conference play with a big win over rival Santa Fe 11-9 in game one of the three game series. The Saints got off to an early lead scoring five runs in the first but the Patriots responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning. Brooke Roberts singled in Gianna Guerierro for the first run and then was followed up with back to back to back doubles by Hailey Scott, Hannah Meyer and Emily Konz to make the score 5-4. Cameron Wolfenden later doubled to score both Meyer and Konz to take the lead. Santa Fe responded with two more runs in the second to take the lead back 7-6. In the bottom of the inning Brooke Roberts launched a two-run home run, her 18th of the year, to take a 8-7 lead.  The Patriots added 3 more insurance runs in the third inning to go up 11-7. Guerriero, Megan Loftis, Roberts, Konz and Wolfenden all had two hit is the game. Robets finished with 4 RBI and Wolfenden had 2 RBI.

Haley Guffey got the win in the circle for CF. She struggled some early on and was pulled from the game in the first however she later came back in the game in the second for reliever Anna Toon and settled in to finish the rest of the game for her 18th win of the year. Guffey surrendered 7 runs on 8 hits and walked 6 while striking out 5.

The Patriots (31-8) will next travel to Santa Fe on Saturday 3/18 to complete the series with a double header in Gainesville starting at 1pm.
