Central Florida Completes Season Sweep Over Lake Sumter

The Patriots are back on top in the Mid-Florida Conference standings after completing the season sweep of Lake Sumter with their 7-2 and 11-7 wins on Saturday. Now 13-3 in conference, they are one game up on Seminole State who is 12-4 and these two teams will meet up to play on Tues 4/12 at Seminole. 

In game one the lady Pats used a 3-run first inning to get the lead and never let it go from there. Savannah Barnett had another strong start for College of Central Florida. She threw seven innings, allowing only four hits and two runs while striking out six and walking one. Leading hitters for the Patriots were Gianna Guerriero (2-4, HR, 2R), Kamaya Cohen (2-3, 2R), and Jade Fayad (2-3, 2RBI, 2R).

In game two's 11-7 victory the Patriots came from behind to secure the win. Lake Sumter had a 7-4 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning when the CF offense erupted for 7 runs to take the lead. Gianna Guerriero came up big when the Pats were down 7-6 and she hit a 3-run HR to take the lead. This was her second home run of the day and team leading 10th of the season. Emily Proctor was the winning pitcher for CF coming into the game in relief in the third inning for starter Jodesea Peterson. Proctor went four and two-thirds innings, allowing only one run on four hits, while striking out six to earn her ninth win of the season. Leading hitters for the game were Guerriero (2-4, HR, 3RBI, 2R), Kamaya Cohen (2-3, 2R, RBI), and Brooke Roberts (2-3, 2B, R).

The Patriots next match up will be against second place Seminole State in Sanford, FL on Tiesday 4/12. First game will start at 2 PM
