CF Sweeps Doubleheader at South Georgia State

The College of Central Florida Patriots (19-1) completed a perfect 6-0 week when they swept South Georgia State College 13-4 and 1-0 in Douglas, Georgia on Saturday afternoon.

In the opener John Marant hit the first pitch of the game for a home run followed immediately by a home run from Edwin Toribio to jump out to an early 2-0 lead. The Hawks (10-8) quickly tied things up when SGSC third baseman, Matthew Mebane hit a two-run bomb to left field in the bottom of the first inning. The game was tied 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning when Juan Correa belted a grand slam home run to deep center field to put the Pats on top to stay at 7-3.
John Marant would hit his second home run of the game in the fifth inning followed by a deep shot to left field by Kainen Jorge in the sixth inning. Thad Ector added an RBI single and finished the game going 3 for 3 with a double and a stolen base.

Brian Holiday (3-0) tossed six innings allowing only three hits, two earned runs, and striking out ten batters.

In the second game Kareh Valentin singled home Kainen Jorge, who had doubled, in the top of the seventh inning to plate the games only run in the Patriots 1-0 win over South Georgia State College. The Hawks starting pitcher, Brian Crooms (6.2 IP, 4H, 1R, 5K) and a trio of CF pitchers pitched shutout baseball into the seventh inning.

Manny Dooley started for the Pats and went 2.2 IP, allowing only 2 hits, 0 runs, with 5 Ks. Keller Eberly mowed down SGSC with 2.1 IP, allowing one hit, 0 runs, with 3 Ks. CF closer Cam Schuelke (2-0) picked up the win by throwing two innings allowing only one hit, no runs and striking out two.

The Patriots travel to Leesburg on Monday to play the Lake Sumter State College Lake Hawks at 2:30 PM.
