CF Softball Wins Opening Game 12-2 Over East GA, Loses Game Two 3-2 to Parkland

Patriots Softball splits their double header on opening day in the JUCO Kickoff Classic in Clearwater, FL. The pounded East Gerigia State 12-2 in game one before losing to Parkland 3-2 in extra innings in game two. 

The Patriot offense had 17 hits in game one vs East Georgia. They scored one in the first on a Hailey Scott double and followed it up with five in the second with singles by Megan Loftis and Hailey Scott along with a double by Emily Konz. Gianna Guerriero and Brooke Roberts both had three hits in the game and the Patriots stole seven bags with Guerriero swiping four of them. Haley Guffey earned the win, pitching four inningswhile racking up three strikeouts and zero runs with two hits. Ashley Martinec closed out the game throwing three innings, striking out three and gave up two unearned runs. 

In game two Parkland's pitcher kept the patriot bats shut down until the 7th inning when they were able to score two with two outs to tie the game and force extra innings. Gianna Guerriero doubled with two outs to score Avery Lawson from second and then Emily Konz singled to score Katie Sexton to tie the game. Guerriero tried to score to take the lead but was thrown out at home. Parkland pushed across a run in the 9th and although E Rogel reached base with a single, Central Florida was unable to score her. Haley Guffey (2 inn) and Anna Toon (7 inn) combined to throw nine strikeouts and walked none.

The Lady Patriots will play another double header today in Clearwater, FL with matchups against Lake Sumter at 1:30 and Indian River State at 4 PM. Follow along on Gamechanger for live stats and video. Go Patriots!
